Preparation is very important, since it is a powerful shaper of the context for psychedelic experiences. Psychedelics produce pivotal "transient states of hyperplasticity in which the organism is specially sensitive to environmental conditions, and outcomes critically depend on those contextual conditions...if therapeutic and supportive, then the outcomes may well be positive.”

This week, we learned about how to structure your Preparation Sessions. We started talking about context (also known as set and setting), intention setting, and the therapeutic effects of psychedelic medicines according to general ranges. We discussed the role of a support person and the importance of therapeutic ritual. We explored how to prepare clients for possible challenges in advance of the Medicine Session, such as the rubber band effect, and also how to conduct Preparation and Integration Sessions via video.
The following assessments are due shortly.
Module 5 Knowledge Check due at the end of Week 5
See the Course Schedule for all due dates.
As you progress throughout your week, reflect on the following question(s). There is no required written response, rather it is a key takeaway to reflect on. If you would like, you can share your response on Flip.
How could you concretely incorporate intention setting in your daily life if this is not a typical practice for you? How could you demonstrate the benefit of regular intention-setting to your clients?
