According to renowned psychedelic-assisted therapist Dr. Gabor Maté, everyone has some form of trauma. Consequently, an important pillar of the Numinus care model is trauma- and violence-informed care. To be trauma- and violence-informed means to be aware of the impact that trauma and violence have on the body and mind. This video provides a brief overview of polyvagal theory and how the autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulates. Building one’s capacity for ANS regulation largely involves bringing into conscious awareness practices that support stress tolerance and resilience within the nervous system so that such practices may be used proactively to maintain good physical and mental health.
