In this module, we learned about post-traumatic stress and the limitations of the DSM’s conceptualization of post-traumatic stress disorder. We did a brief refresher on the different types of trauma in order to frame post-traumatic stress as a disorder that extends beyond the DSM’s criteria. We also looked at some key transdiagnostic factors including common comorbidities and early childhood adversity as a risk factor. We discussed how acceptance and commitment therapy can increase psychological flexibility to treat PTSD. Finally, we looked at some key studies highlighting the success of MDMA-assisted therapy and ketamine-assisted therapy for the treatment of post-traumatic stress.
